LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature

Who we are

This Privacy Statement is issued by National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) LIFE-Integrated Project (IP) Wild Atlantic Nature.  The NPWS is a part of the Heritage Division of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH).  DHLGH, “the Department”, is the government department responsible for housing and water, for physical and spatial planning, for local government, for weather forecasting and for our nations built and natural heritage.

The Department is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.  This Privacy Statement explains how the Department, as the Data Controller, will process the personal data provided to it in respect of the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature, specifically its Natura Communities Seed Fund (NCSF), a local communities support grant pilot scheme; how that information will be used; and what rights you may exercise in relation to your personal data.

Categories of personal data that we collect and process

The Department processes the following personal data in respect of the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature NCSF, once a community group expresses an interest to participate in this programme, including nominating the data subject as a primary contact person:

  • Primary contact name, the applying entity name (for which they are the contact), address, telephone number and email address.

Once assessment of the application and eligibility verification has been completed, the Department will also collect bank account details for the participating entity.

Source of the personal data

Personal data relating to the primary contact is provided by the applying entity as a part of the process of applying to the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature NCSF. We do not collect your personal data from anywhere else.

Purposes of the processing

The Department will use the information provided in order to administer the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature Natura Communities Seed Fund. The administration of the scheme will involve making contact with the primary contact individual as provided by the applying entity in their application form. Your personal data will be retained to meet internal and EU audit requirement. The Department will not process your personal data for any purpose other than that for which it is collected.

Profiling   

The Department will not use any of the personal data we collect from you for any form of profiling or automated decision making.

Lawful Basis for Processing

The legal bases for the processing of your data as a part of the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature scheme under the following articles of the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 is:

  • GDPR Article 6(1)(b), “the processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract”;
  • LIFE Regulations EU No1293/2013 Article 8 and Recital 11 and EU 783/2021 Article 8 and Recital 5.

Security of your personal data

The Department implements appropriate technical, organisational and procedural measures to protect your information from unauthorised access.  However, no set of security measures, processes and procedures are infallible and in the unlikely event that your data is compromised as the result of a breach of security the Department’s Breach Management Policy and Procedures will be activated.

Recipients of the data

Your data will not be exchanged by LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature with third parties.

Cross-border Data Transfers

The Department will not transfer the personal data collected in respect of the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature project to any country outside of the EU/EEA except as required for the delivery of the project and governed by contractual clauses in accordance with GDPR.

How long will your data be kept?

The Department will only retain your data for as long as it is necessary for the purposes for which it was connected and is required by law.  In line with legal requirements your personal details will be retained for the duration of the LIFE-IP Wild Atlantic Nature project plus 7 years, or until 2035.

Your Rights  

In addition to the details contained in this notice, the Departments Data Protection Policy sets out how we use your data as well as providing information regarding your rights as a data subject.  The Data Protection policy is available via the DHLGH website or in hard copy upon request.  If you consider that your rights have been infringed you have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (www.dataprotection.ie), and you have the right to seek judicial remedy.
